About Kay

I love to be outside. Winters are the most difficult time of the year. I hate being cold therefore I tend to hang out inside from approximately November through February. I have a hard time admitting it but during that time, I physically and mentally become a little less stable. Steve, on a bad day, may even say “a lot less stable”.

To start the New Year 2008, I had 5 dogs. They are my pack. We moved around together as a group on a daily basis since I stopped teaching almost two years ago. I enjoyed being with them - around them - interacting with them. We have a trail around our 10 acres and we walked/ran it daily in the summer but less in the winter. But the weather was fair on the 1st of January and the 6 of us were checking things out. I was happy and said out loud “We are all going to have a happy healthy year”. Right after I thought “man I better not say stuff like that”. Sadly wanting something badly usually turns out badly. I’ve learned to keep my expectations low - at least publicly.

Oreo passed away on January 1oth from a ruptured spleen brought on by cancer. Although we knew about the cancer, she was diagnosed a year before, we were heartbroken when she took a bad turn on that Thursday. The Dr. tried surgery but it just wasn’t meant to be. We are still grieving and I feel lost. I know in my heart that she would have only gotten worse - the cancer wasn’t going away after 2 surgeries and pills - but … I am glad that she didn’t suffer much during that last year. We had lots of good times.

This site will be used to help me refocus not just because of losing Oreo. I have always had trouble defining me. Four year old Gracie was defining hobbies with the people in her life - her mothers - crossstitching, grandmas - sewing, daddy’s - watching tv, papa Casey - golf, papa Steve’s - making metal flowers & running, and mine - taking care of my dogs. I thought it strange at the time how a child can be so accurate. I feel part of me failed - I should have done more. I’ve always been a little hard on myself - my worse enemy.

Anyway I will refocus - post goals and document along the way. I like reading self help books. One time I read “Stop reading self help books and start doing them”. That person was talking to me. I read and think “that’s a good idea” and thats the end of that. I believe many people have that problem. I will document my progress to becoming a higher functioning person. Figuring out just what I contribute to this world. How best to use the abilities I have to help people in some way. Maybe this will help center my thoughts - and in the future help others.

My pack - Right to left - Oreo, Bodie, Lucky, Red, and Katie in the very back.

Goals to 45

INTRO.

This year I turn 45 years young March 7. I need measurable goals to improve by March 7 and then reassess. I am blessed that I have the flexibility to stay home and work. Steve and I have internet businesses. Steve is the brains but I do have my jobs to perform. However, my point I have the time - I need to develop the discipline!

I want to improve my health - mentally, spiritually, and physically.

I also make things - stained glass, pottery, fused glass, and mosaics. I would like to work daily in my studio.

I garden - My Steve and I have 20 acres. I enjoy designing new gardens and working in the ones already established. And though its too cold for planting, there is prep work that could be done getting ready for spring (and that will be soon - do I hear an AMEN!!).

THE OVERALL PLAN

Health -No pop or processed foods, 1hour exercise daily plus yoga or weight training

Art - At least 1 hour per day

Outside - 1 hour daily - but not if the temp is not 40 or above. If less than, that hour goes to art or health.

Websites - 1 Hour daily.

I enjoy many kinds creative art - stained glass, mosaics, fused glass, and clay. I have a hard time classifying myself as a artist but I like the idea. I would enjoy being able to say “I am an artist” and feel it in my bones.

I think I have already stated my love to be outside. Gardening on this 10 acres is definitely one of the most rewarding experiences to date. To start with nothing but a patch of ground and mold it into a “place to be”. WOW - love it!

Life Strategies by Dr. Phil

Doing What Works - Doing What Matters

I will read and post thoughts. I also have the workbook and will work though my life - focusing on my life’s mission. I believe everyone has a purpose and the hardest work that I must do is finding the one meant for me.
